JANUARY AND FEBRUARY 2004

Welcome To Kara's Korner…

Happy New Year 2004. Happy Valentine's Day too. This month our baby Morgan turns one. Where ever did the year go? Way too fast for me! I have been doing quite a bit of scrapbooking with all the baby pictures we have taken this past year. Recently, while in a craft store, I came across some paper that looked like pressed flowers. A great idea! Create my own pressed flower paper. So I did. Take a look ….

To make your special pages with pressed flowers you will need some light colored paper, pressed flowers or foliage and a color photocopier. Decide on what pressed flowers or foliage you will want to use. Then think of how you want to design your paper. To copy your page, just place the pressed flowers front side facing down right on the screen of the copier. The back of the flower should be facing towards you. Gently lower the copier lid down so your flowers will not move or blow off the screen. Make several copies of each design, as you might want to trade with friends or even use as stationary to write a letter.

You can buy pressed flowers for this project at the craft stores. I must say I was SHOCKED at the price! Very costly! Pressing your own flowers is a lot more affordable and memorable.

After you have made your beautiful pages you can then use them for scrapbooking. All you will need is a scrapbook album, some photographs, stickers, fun scissors, colored paper and your creativity. Take a look at the two pages I did…

On the left is a picture of our baby Morgan. I color photocopied some pressed green grasses I gathered from our field last summer. I thought this would be a fun back ground with the palm tree in the picture. On the right is a picture of our daughter Kami pushing Morgan in her stroller. I chose buttercups as yellow is Kami's favorite color. Buttercups are also special to me as Kami use to pick them for me when she was much younger. Not to mention she helped me gather these buttercups to press. So my buttercup page just had to be used with a picture of Kami.

In the picture above I used a smaller scrapbook photo album. When you use a smaller album you'll want to use no more than 3 pictures on a page. I used only one picture per page as each picture was special to me and I wanted them to stand out.

If acid free paper is important to you then you might want to purchase some acid free clear photo sleeves. You can purchase the photo sleeves at a scrapbook or craft store or from a Creative Memories Consultant. Just simply place your pictures in the protective sleeve and then add to your page. I did use acid free paper however once ink is used to copy your design the paper is no longer acid free.

You can also use pressed flowers on your pages without copying them. Pressed flowers are now the NEWEST idea for scrapbooking.

Have fun! I enjoyed making these pages.

Take care and God bless,

Kara
