Welcome To Kara's Korner…

Summer is here! I hope you're having wonderful weather and have been able to enjoy the great outdoors.

I have been busy pressing flowers and grasses. Everything is starting to bloom around our home. Brings a smile to my face to see all the beautiful flowers this time of year. With all the beautiful flowers popping up I keep a cinch flower press in the glove box of my car. When I am out and about and see some flowers, I can easily press them.

Take a look at the T-shirt designs I created.

Kara's Korner 06-03

My favorite one is the light purple shirt with the heart design of the Johnny Jump-Ups.

On the blue shirt I used some cheerful looking Buttercups.

Give a piece of your garden away and make a special shirt for someone.

Here's how…

Items needed:

  • Pressed Flowers
  • T-shirt (A solid color in pastels or white works best)
  • Iron
  • Towel
  • Table
  • Scissors
  • Computer iron on transfer paper
  • Color copy machine/printer

You can use a new shirt or spruce up an old shirt. Depending on the color of shirt, you'll want to think about what color of flowers to use. For example, do not use white daisies on a white shirt or yellow buttercups on a yellow shirt. Keep in mind before you start as to what flowers will compliment the color of your shirt.

When you have decided on your pressed flowers, place them on a plain piece of white paper. Move them around working with them to create your design. Once you have your design, carry your paper to your color copy machine/printer. Place the flowers onto the glass to copy. Make sure you place the front of the flower down on the glass and have the back of the flower facing up toward you. With your design on the glass of the color copier/printer…gently close the lid so your flowers do not blow off the glass. First, print a test copy on regular paper. If all looks good than put your iron on transfer paper into the printer and copy. Use a pair of scissors and cut your picture out leaving a small edge around your design.

Next, iron your design on your shirt. Follow the directions that come with the iron on transfer paper. Basically the directions tell you to pre-heat your iron to a cotton setting. Empty any water out of your iron and do not use the steam button. Lay a towel on a flat surface such as a table. Place your shirt on the towel and iron out any wrinkles your shirt may have. Then lay your iron on transfer on the shirt face down. Firmly iron your transfer paper for a good 30 seconds. Drape your shirt over a chair to let it completely cool.

Now the fun part… Gently peel back the iron on transfer paper until it is removed. You now have a wonderful pressed flower design on your shirt. When washing, turn your shirt inside out and wash as you normally would for a cotton T-shirt.

Surprise a friend or family member with a piece of your garden. Make them a shirt that is picked and pressed especially for them.

God bless and have a safe 4th of July
