Welcome To Kara's Korner
I hope everyone had a wonderful Summer. Fall is here once again.
A cozy time of year! With our new baby in the house…getting
my newsletter out on time has been challenging. Nice to be back
on track.
This month I am going to share with you how I store my pressed
flowers.
I have received many emails from pressed flower fans asking, “How
do I store my pressed flowers?”
If you're like me sometimes I get a little unorganized with all
my flowers. I had pressed flowers in my flower presses, some flowers
loosely laying here and there… some where they should be and
others not! This month’s newsletter really helped me to get
organized once again.
There are many different ways to store your pressed flowers. Some
people like to put them in lids of old shoeboxes and stack them.
I have a friend who keeps hers in a flat, plastic stacking unit
that has little drawers. Myself, I use to keep them in my flower
presses until I was ready to use them. When I started to press more
and more flowers and foliage too I realized I needed to store another
way. Then I started to use business envelopes. This was nice as
I could write on the envelope the names of the flowers I pressed.
I did this for awhile… however when I went to use my flowers
I found myself flipping through the envelopes, always peeking inside
to SEE my flowers. I then came up with THE BEST storage idea ever
for pressed flowers! I have been storing my pressed flowers this
wonderful way now for the past three years and I just love it!
Here is what I do…
I store my pressed flowers in a three ring binder notebook. Inside
acid free & archival safe clear sheet/page protectors. Take
a look at my pictures below…
The first picture I placed a sheet of white paper behind my pages
so you could easily see what my flower pages look like. The second
picture is a real photo shot of my open book and how it normally
looks.
This storage idea is a wonderful way to be able to SEE your beautiful
pressed flowers and foliage. You can turn the pages and SEE what
you have, how many flowers you have pressed. You can even keep your
book out like you would a photo album so others can flip through
the pages and enjoy.
The nice thing about the three ring binder is you can easily add
or take out any pages when you need to use some flowers.
The clear plastic page protectors come with both sides and the
bottom sealed. There is an opening at the top (for papers to slide
in.) I turn the page upside down so the opening is at the bottom.
With a pair of scissors I cut from the bottom left side of the page
protector up to more than half way to the top. This way I can lift
the front of the page protector up so I can easily place my flowers
inside. Your flowers will cling to the plastic and not slide out
the bottom. However if you put too many flowers close to the bottom
then one or two may fall out if you turn the page. The page protectors
come with three holes punched on the side to place in your binder.
Three ring binders and plastic page protectors can be purchased
at any office supply store. Be sure to get the acid free page protectors.
I no longer label my flowers like I did when I used envelopes.
If you would like to label yours you can use index tabs or a plain
white label sticker to write names of your flowers, date you pressed
them or where you picked them. The label sticker can be placed at
the top or bottom of your pages.
Hope you enjoyed my storage idea for pressed flowers.
Take care and God bless,
Kara
